Jack - Play, then Work

He was never going to get used to this. It wasn't as if they spent all their time together, this was still new after all, but they spent enough time that waking up in Jack's fucking hobbit hole happened more than Logan liked.

"You need a real bed. And a real bedroom. ...And sheets that don't date back to World War One," he complained, rubbing his face as he sat up and turned on the light.

"I barely sleep. What does it matter?" Jack replied as he sat up.

[logan_echolls]

"I sleep," Logan replied, throwing a pillow at Jack's head. "Besides, this is depressing. It makes the barracks seem nice."

He tried to dodge the pillow but he couldn't get far. It bounced off his face.

"Okay, okay. A real bed," he agreed.

[logan_echolls]

"No. A real place," Logan replied. "Your place is a hole, my place is miserable, so- Let's share a place. I mean, you used to be married to me, right? Surely we had a place and we weren't slumming it in a cave."

"We had a really nice place," Jack smiled, leaning back on an elbow. "We built it. We had dogs and cats...domestic bliss."

He thought better than to mention their daughter.

[logan_echolls]

"So let's find an apartment," Logan said. "Two rooms, if you want. If things don't work, we end the lease."

"You have anything in mind or should we go get online?" Jack asked as he finally climbed off his mat.

[logan_echolls]

Logan seemed surprised, as though he'd expected Jack to say no- Though he wasn't sure why.

"I didn't have a place in mind. Something in the area would be good though."

"It's a nice area of the city," he said, pleased to stat close.

He stood up and started to dress.

"It's been a long time since I lived with anyone. Huh. A long time."

"I'm surprised you're- I mean, I'm glad, but-"

It had taken so long to convince Veronica they ought to live together.

"...Whatever. So, we search local, near work. Let's see what's around," he nodded, pulling his shirt on and looking for his jeans.

Jack was doing his best to go slowly and get to know Logan all over again. But he had been all in from the first moment. Entirely in.

"I'm going to see what's for food and put on a pot of coffee," he said, wandering out in trousers and just his undershirt. His hair needed help.

Logan watched him go, but eventually grabbed the laptop and followed after him.

"What should our price range be?" he asked. "I mean, You know my salary, I don't really know your financial situation."

"Money really isn't an issue," Jack said. "I've made some smart investments over the years. So let's start with what you like," he added as he filled the pot.

[logan_echolls]

"I don't want you carrying me financially," Logan said quietly, sitting down with the laptop and starting to look for a place.

"Don't think of it like that. Look, the last thing I bought, other than food, is a pair of boots and three shirts. Torchwood pays for everything, so...I'm not worried about rent," he explained.

Logan was still frowning, but he didn't argue.

"So... Two bedrooms, laundry on site... What else?" he asked.

"A balcony would be nice," he suggested. An odd request from a man who lived in a hole.

Logan looked surprised, then nodded, tapping away.

"Oh, wow. Well, this is out of our budget, but you should see it," he laughed. "Massive square footage, marble counters, marble floors in the bathroom... God I miss money," he laughed.

Jack looked at the pictures, which were gorgeous, but then looked at the rent.

"Oof...rent in this city is out of control."

[logan_echolls]

"It really is," Logan sighed. "You try your luck," he suggested, pushing the laptop towards him. "I'll see if there's anything to eat."

Jack started looking through the listings, but nothing struck him. Well, that one had nice cabinets, and that other one had a full laundry, but to him a place was a place.

"What about this one?" Jack asked, picking one at random.

[logan_echolls]

"It's big, but old. Kinda ugly. I could put in new counters... The carpet is shit though. It's green, who wants lime green carpet?" Logan laughed.

"What's wrong with green?" Jack laughed, Xing out of that listing. "Maybe I'm not the best one to pick. The last kitchen I had, the appliances were avocado."

Logan sighed, then looked at Jack thoughtfully.

"I guess we could renovate something," he suggested.

Jack did like seeing Logan sweaty and half naked and covered in sawdust. That alone made the idea of renovating so appealing.

"We could get an agent, too," he said. "Though renovation sounds kinda fun."
