Christmas was well in the past now, and Logan had settled into the new year. Things with Jack were- Well, they were as normal as he could hope, though things were still strange. There was no easy way to just get over learning some other him had lived some other life- With a man who was now his boss. Still, Logan had accepted that life was complicated, and he'd moved on as best as he could.

It was late now and most of the team had already left- But not Jack. Logan was certain the man never truly left work. Even when he said he was taking a night off, he was sure he was just working on something else. So after clicking off the lights in the record room he made his way to Jack's office, pushing open the unlocked door and leaning against the door frame.

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy," he tutted. "Come on, we're going out," he decided.

"Lack of dead," Logan corrected. "That's the point, right? No spooks."

He paused then, looking thoughtful. "Does that mean most places are super haunted then? I don't want to think about dead people watching me piss."

"It would stand to reason, I guess," he shrugged. "Not my area of expertise."

[logan_echolls]

"Nice, so many new nightmares in that one," Logan said, finishing his salad and putting the empty container aside. "Why are you so into this anyway? Hardly seems urgent or dangerous."

"I want to get to the bottom of this if I can, so until I know otherwise I'm going to think all these things are linked," he said. "There's a method to my madness."

[logan_echolls]

"Really? Because all I see is a guy in a flashy coat running around in circles, chasing new shiny things in the hopes that they might connect the dots," Logan countered.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but your methods aren't working. I don't know what they taught when you first enlisted, but my guys? When we fail, we don't just keep throwing ideas at the wall. We regroup. We focus."

He gestured around them at the records. "We go back to the start."

"You got a plan? Let's hear it," he said with a curious smile.

"We go through everything, mark anything that looks like this mist stuff. We trace it back to the first appearance. We find the catalyst. Nip it in the bud," Logan replied.

"Alright," he nodded. "Solid plan. And where do you propose to start? I mean right now, this second."

[logan_echolls]

"I've been through those stacks, but there's a lot left," Logan said, gesturing around them. "I've seen some anomalies, but nothing exactly like this. No time warps, no changing streets. I think we move through until we find something familiar. I mean, streets transforming in full? That's big, hard to cover up completely. If it's happened before there'll be something here. I know you want instant results and action, but with this? I don't know if you'll get that. We also know there's more than one place people are taken to. I think we should look for abduction reports where victims claim to be held on islands or beaches."

Jack had the sneaking suspicion this would all come to nothing, but it was better than nothing.

"Okay, I'm going to go pee, then I'll tackle these ones," he said.

Logan nodded, pulling another stack for himself and starting to dig through.

"Why's it always so warm in here?" he complained when Jack returned, shrugging off his button down until he was just in his undershirt. He'd shed his sweater hours ago, and honestly didn't even know where his coat was.

"Because I get cold," he called from the hallway.

It was a few minutes before he came back, drying his hands on a paper towel.

"I've about had it," he said. "Being in here. Let's get out and see what we can find. I'm sure you've got something in that pile we should go check out."

"I'm barely out of the 1800's," Logan said, scratching his jaw and then looking at Jack. "Okay, um... Let's head up north. There were reports of a field turning into a fairground for a whole week back in 1904. Not once but on seven occasions between then and the 1930's. The land still isn't developed, looks to be protected- Let's just go see if there's anything there. Worst case we get some country air, right?"

"That's more like it," he nodded. He was already moving to get his coat. "Let's go take a look."

[logan_echolls]

Logan grabbed his sweater, pulling it back on.

"Sure, yeah, let's head out. We should pack a tent or something."

"Got one in the rig," Jakc replied over his shoulder. "We're fully equipped. It even sets itself up."

[logan_echolls]

"Such a boy scout," Logan tutted, following after him and grabbing his bag on the way out.

Jack took the directions and plugged them into the GPS.

"We should stop at the store and get some snacks," he said. "Something for dinner later."

He had literally just eaten and his mind was already on his next meal.

"Yeah, sure," Logan nodded, buckling up and glancing over. He looked as if he was going to suggest something, but quickly changed his mind.

That Jack was happy to out doing something was obvious. A quick trip in for some food and they were on their way, heading out to the country.

"I worked with a guy in Cardiff. He hated the countryside," Jack said. "And, we found out, he had good reason to."

[logan_echolls]

"I don't mind it," Logan said honestly. "Better than deserts and bunkers."

"I remember the dust and the sand there," he said. "I was in Lahore for a while."

He drifted off thinking of the war.All the wars.

[logan_echolls]

"I thought I might miss it- But I don't," Logan admitted, looking over at Jack.

"Neither do I," he replied. "Been a lot of places I'm happy to never go back to."

"I mean the Navy. I thought I'd miss being military," Logan confessed.
