Jack

Christmas was well in the past now, and Logan had settled into the new year. Things with Jack were- Well, they were as normal as he could hope, though things were still strange. There was no easy way to just get over learning some other him had lived some other life- With a man who was now his boss. Still, Logan had accepted that life was complicated, and he'd moved on as best as he could.

It was late now and most of the team had already left- But not Jack. Logan was certain the man never truly left work. Even when he said he was taking a night off, he was sure he was just working on something else. So after clicking off the lights in the record room he made his way to Jack's office, pushing open the unlocked door and leaning against the door frame.

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy," he tutted. "Come on, we're going out," he decided.

"You weren't," Logan said. "But it's good, in a way. It gives us time to get things straight. I'm not here to be a good time when you want one. We work together and this work involves a lot of trust. If we go here, I'm all in, Jack. So I need to know where you're at."

Jack pushed his food away and wiped his hands on a paper napkin.

"I've been all in since the second I saw you, Logan. It's always been you...for all these years, it's always been you."

He hadn't been lonely and he certainly hadn't been celibate, but Jack knew what he wanted and now, hearing Logan's assurance, he was going to take it.

Logan seemed unsure, but after a beat he nodded.

"Okay then," he said softly. "Alright."

"I understand if it's too much. Too fast," he said. "But I hope it's not."

[logan_echolls]

"I'm in," Logan said quietly, looking at his salad. "I'm not sure what that means to me yet, but right now, I'm in with you, okay?"

Jack nodded, a slow smile splitting his lips.

"One hundred percent in," he promised.

[logan_echolls]

Logan glanced over, studying Jack and then nodding.

"I'm combing through the really old stuff, digging for reports about the mist. I'm digitizing it as well as I go. Make it more searchable."

"I've got something else..."

He looked through files, then passed one to Logan.

"...apparently there's no dead people in this area."

[logan_echolls]

"What do you mean? No one is buried there, or..."

Logan opened the file and started to flip through.

"I have a contact. He can talk to the dead. And he says that right around here it's abnormally quiet. No clue what that means."

[logan_echolls]

"A medium told you there's a ghost dead spot?" Logan replied. "I know we deal in the weird, Jack, but- Jesus, come on."

"Don't discount anything, Logan. It might be related," he replied.

[logan_echolls]

"No, I know, but- Really, we're having seances now?" Logan pressed.

[im_torchwood]

"We are following leads," he clarified. "If it's nothing then it's nothing, but I want to look into it."

[logan_echolls]

"Alright- So how do we investigate this? We going to strap on proton packs and cross our streams?" he quipped.

[im_torchwood]

"I was kinda thinking we could get my source to sober up, then give him a shake to see what more he can tell us," he said before stuffing food in his mouth.

[logan_echolls]

"Oh good, a wasted medium," Logan replied with a laugh. "You're the boss- Whatever you think's best."

[im_torchwood]

"Where else can you have the fun of data entry followed by strong arming a junkie? Best job ever, right?" Jack teased.

[logan_echolls]

"You really want to go trailing around in graveyards?" Logan asked. "I was thinking dinner and a movie... But alright. I'm sure this will be just as fun."

[im_torchwood]

"Chasing the dead will be way more fun," he promised.

[logan_echolls]

"Lack of dead," Logan corrected. "That's the point, right? No spooks."

He paused then, looking thoughtful. "Does that mean most places are super haunted then? I don't want to think about dead people watching me piss."

[im_torchwood]

"It would stand to reason, I guess," he shrugged. "Not my area of expertise."

[logan_echolls]

"Nice, so many new nightmares in that one," Logan said, finishing his salad and putting the empty container aside. "Why are you so into this anyway? Hardly seems urgent or dangerous."

[im_torchwood]

"I want to get to the bottom of this if I can, so until I know otherwise I'm going to think all these things are linked," he said. "There's a method to my madness."

[logan_echolls]

"Really? Because all I see is a guy in a flashy coat running around in circles, chasing new shiny things in the hopes that they might connect the dots," Logan countered.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but your methods aren't working. I don't know what they taught when you first enlisted, but my guys? When we fail, we don't just keep throwing ideas at the wall. We regroup. We focus."

He gestured around them at the records. "We go back to the start."
