Sitting in the boarding area, Logan looked out one of the large windows, watching as planes took off and landed. In a way leaving London felt wrong- As though he was taking a time out from serving his sentence. Though working for Torchwood often felt the same way. He'd given up so much when he'd left America, convinced that it was for the greater good, and now- Now it seemed as though it had all been for nothing. Just one more fuck up in a long line of fuck ups.

He took solace in the idea that at least with Torchwood he stood more of a chance accomplishing what he'd come here to do, but that didn't really make it easier.

Glancing over at Jack, he hesitated slightly before speaking up. "What happens if there's no answers. No solutions?" he asked quietly.

"Now who's littering?" he said as he dramatically dodged to the side to avoid the wad. "I do, though. Love it."

[logan_echolls]

Logan snorted, shaking his head. "Yeah, well, for what it's worth, it's nice to have reasons to laugh."

Indeed it was. Jack had found he smiled more frequently. Real smiles that touched the light in his eyes.

"What else makes you laugh?" he asked.

[logan_echolls]

"What makes anyone laugh?" Logan replied with a shrug. "Humor, joy, all the normal things. I'm not some strange soul in need of cracking open, Jack. Other than a shitty backstory and a google-able name, I'm about as boring and normal as they come."

"And you're happy like that? Boring and normal?" he asked.

[logan_echolls]

"I am," Logan replied sincerely. "I had crazy, I had awful- Normal and boring is wonderful."

"Kinda shook that up with Torchwood, didn't I?" he asked, dumping the crumbs from the packet into his mouth.

[logan_echolls]

"A little," Logan admitted with a small shrug. "It's good though. I care about the work we do. And, you know, it's nice to have a boss I don't have to call Sir or Mam," he added with a laugh before grabbing another beer.

"I mean, you could call me Sir if you want to," Jack teased, flashing Logan a fast wink.

[logan_echolls]

Logan snorted at that, shaking his head.

"Let's stick with Captain for now," he chuckled.

"I suppose that could be sexy, too. Depending on how you say it. Hey, pass me a beer," he said, reaching out.

[logan_echolls]

Logan snorted again, passing over a beer before leaning back on his seat to gaze out over the water.

"I prefer calling you Jack," he admitted. "Feels like there's less of a barrier."

"Fair enough," Jack said. "And you know I'll answer to it."

He took a long pull from his beer then looked out over the ocean. The tiny bay they were anchored was in the shade, but the sun sparkled on the water farther out.

"I miss this," he said. "The tropics. Feels right."

"What's keeping you from moving out somewhere like this?" Logan asked.

"I was waiting for something," he said. And he had been. So long he'd almost given up.

[logan_echolls]

"I guess you'd get bored anyway," Logan said thoughtfully. "You don't seem like a do nothing guy."

[im_torchwood]

"That's true. I tried it once, settling down. Wife, kid, the whole thing," he replied. "But clearly that didn't work out."

[logan_echolls]

"I can picture you like that," Logan admitted. "You seem like a lifelong bachelor."

[im_torchwood]

"Let's just say I've been alone a lot longer than I've ever been with anyone," he shrugged. "Which is kinda tragic. I make a great boyfriend."

[logan_echolls]

"We should make you a dating profile," Logan chuckled. "Get you on Tinder or something."

"Oh, yeah, sure," Jack scoffed. "I think I'll pass. When the right someone comes along, I'm sure it'll work out."

[logan_echolls]

"Yeah? I'm pretty okay with the whole dying alone thing these days," Logan snorted- Though there was a sadness there.

Shaking it off, he looked out over the water.

"Yeah...I just don't think that's going to happen," Jack replied simply. Then he reached across so he could grab another beer.

[logan_echolls]

The movement drew his attention away from the waves, and Logan watched Jack curiously for a long moment.

"It's a bad idea, you know," he said quietly. "Mixing work and hook ups. I've done it, before me and Veronica got back together... It gets lonely on base, you know? And shit happens- And it always ends badly. Someone gets hurt, or someone freaks out, and then it's just awkward until one of you gets moved somewhere else..."

Jack listened, even nodded, before taking a slow sip of beer.

"I'm not interested in a hook up, Logan," he replied simply.
