Jack - Play, then Work

He was never going to get used to this. It wasn't as if they spent all their time together, this was still new after all, but they spent enough time that waking up in Jack's fucking hobbit hole happened more than Logan liked.

"You need a real bed. And a real bedroom. ...And sheets that don't date back to World War One," he complained, rubbing his face as he sat up and turned on the light.

"Even if you could solve it, what would you do? Stop it? Without this chaos, there's no us," Logan pointed out.

"Sometimes I just want the answers," Jack said. "I doubt there's any way to control it. I'm not dumb."

[logan_echolls]

"That's fair, I guess," Logan shrugged. "I dunno, I'm just not sure I want to fight the thing that holds us together."

Jack rolled to a stop and looked over at Logan. He'd not thought of it like that. It was a very good point. What if he poked and prodded until he undid everything?

[logan_echolls]

Logan looked over, then shrugged. "Just a thought."

[im_torchwood]

"It's a good thought," he nodded. "I don't like it, but you've got a point."

He dug for a burrito.

"I'm not going to risk losing you."

[logan_echolls]

"Good. I don't want to be lost," Logan said quietly.

[im_torchwood]

"As far as the mist goes, I just want to understand it. It would be fine if it was harmless, but people get hurt," he said.

[logan_echolls]

"I know, and I get that- But is it so wrong to put us first? You do a lot of good, Jack- Can't you be selfish for a change?" Logan asked softly.

"I...I can be selfish," he protested.

[logan_echolls]

Logan looked doubtful, then shrugged. "Prove it," he said simply.

"Prove it? Now? You mean right now?" he asked, casting Logan a quizzical glance.

[logan_echolls]

"Yeah. Don't go investigate," Logan replied, pausing to take a bite out of his burrito.

"Just don't go?" he asked slowly, as if he were trying to translate what Logan had said.

[logan_echolls]

"Yeah. You want me here, so don't go look into it," Logan shrugged. "It's not a big thing. You can even run whatever tests you want. I won't be an ass about it."

"That's actually not a bad idea," Jack said thoughtfully.

[logan_echolls]

"It's kind of an anti-idea, but I'll still take the praise," Logan snorted.

[im_torchwood]

"God, I've missed you," Jack said when Logan snorted. It shouldn't have even been a ting but Jack found he'd even missed how Logan could breathe.

[logan_echolls]

"I missed you too, ...I think. Time is all fucked up in my head still," he confessed.

"That's disconcerting," Jack said. "Maybe, if nothing else, you should go back to bed and just kind of...adjust."

[logan_echolls]

"I dunno, I feel okay, but it's like- I don't know, I guess it's like I'm remembering two lives and my brain's trying to stitch them into one," Logan admitted. "I don't know if sleep is going to cure that."

"Sounds like the kind of temporal disconnect that drives a lot of people insane," Jack muttered to himself.

[logan_echolls]

"...Yeah, no, great seed to plant there, Jack. Thanks," Logan replied, frowning. "I'm not going insane, I'm just- I don't know. Sorting it all out, I guess."

Jack turned a corner, then another,and they were headed back to the hub.

"I don't mean it like that. I was thinking of people who fell through the rift in Cardiff," he explained.

[logan_echolls]

Logan was still frowning, but he let it be for now. For once he wasn't looking for a fight.
